Mona

"It is important to be called by your name. Because when your homeless you get called a lot of names, and not necessarily your own."

Rose

"Mary's has given me a sense of direction and hope."

Ailene

"Pain is like God's megaphone, it punctures our numbness and awareness comes."

Ravadee

"We are different people but we are all the same. We look at the same stars, the same moon, and breath the same air."

About Mary's Place and the project

Mary's Place is a day center run by the Church of Mary Magdalene in Seattle. It is a refuge and sanctuary where countless numbers of homeless and formerly homeless women find support for their spirits, minds and bodies.

16 Northwest artists were introduced to 16 homeless and formerly homeless women from Mary's Place. Each artist had the privilege of listening to the stories of hope and courage in the face of daily challenges, and then creating a portrait for one of these women.

The artworks will be shown throughout the Northwest, eventually auctioned for the benefit of Mary's Place.
